Meet Georgia’s Member of the Month

Evelyn Hill, Georgia State University TEAM program

"When asked why do you serve, I ask you why not serve? I began volunteering to help others, but the person I helped the most was me. There is nothing more satisfying to me than being able to invest my time into others. Having the opportunity to instill and restore hope in others through volunteerism heightens my sense of purpose in life and brightens my day! Evelyn Hill

Dedication to Service

Evelyn serves the students enrolled in the Carver Early College High School program with great pride, professionalism and humor and is an example to the students she tutors and mentors while supporting her fellow team in meeting their service goals.  Evelyn’s attention to detail, enthusiasm for service and tireless work ethic has allowed our partnership with the Early College to grow.  As a part time member, Evelyn often seeks opportunities to serve alongside her fellow teammates during evening and weekend service projects and community events.  Her attitude exhibits the meaning of “serving wherever needed.” Submitted by Alexandria Cooley, AmeriCorps Program Director

Life After AmeriCorps

" I look forward to earning my M.Ed in Educational Leadership from Georgia State University in May 2013. With this degree, I plan on becoming an educational leader within the non-profit sector who seeks to create and sustain educational settings that foster the learning and well-being of at-risk high school students. As excited as I am to know what I am going to do after AmeriCorps, I am very excited to see what the rest of my corps year has in store for me.”

The mission of the Alonzo A. Crim Center of Urban Educational Excellence in the College of Education at Georgia State University is “to develop, implement, replicate, and lead research-based programs and strategies that are successful in creating partnerships between schools and the rest of the community”.

“I will get things done for America – to make our people safer,
smarter, and healthier. I will bring Americans together to strengthen communities.
Faced with apathy, I will take action. Faced with conflict, I will seek common ground.
Faced with adversity, I will persevere. I will carry this commitment with me this year and beyond.
I am an AmeriCorps member and I will get things done!”
